What’s most important when getting your preschooler ready for his or her future?

There are various Montessori preschool benefits as you explore the best option for your child. Any given day, you’ll see toddlers and kindergartners being dropped off by their moms and dads at hundreds of local locations — a fenced-in house; a large church; a private school; the YMCA, or a Montessori learning center. The reasons parents choose their particular family options are many, including location, school hours, money, and faith. For example, some preschools are flexible in allowing kids to come and go based on parents’ schedules. Others are just close to home. Still, other families want religious teaching. At school bell’s end, the differences are many. A core benefit that Montessori preschools offer is this:

  • knowing about a child’s curiosity and,
  • enlarging curiosity via teaching the child a method of how to learn that is both individualized and personalized

For example, in a Montessori setting, children aged 18 months to three years learn about themselves and their surroundings in a systematic, loving way. Potty training is a hurdle that’s quickly passed. ‘Pick up and put away’ is another. Learning to dress is also taught. Then, younger children learn by being around older children and hearing and seeing how things are done. As time goes on, those 18-month toddlers grow into three-year-olds. From their teachers and their classmates, they have seen first hand how to do, what to do, why to do and then how to show their peers. Through a half-day or full-day setting, toddlers learn about music and art and how to incorporate subjects into patterns that work for them. By and large, Montessori children love learning because they see a path of how things tie-in together and their place in it. In other words, they are encouraged to be creative thinkers. This method is unlike many toddler programs. There, television is substituted as a learning tool. There, teachers may not hold education-based degrees. There, naps may be long and playgrounds short on space. It may be cheap and it may be close but it may not help child development. Why? Child development is best accomplished when parents and teachers are connected by a caring thread. That thread is based on a program that constructively uses time rather than wastes it. And the Montessori Method has taught millions of children how to love learning and how to assess the world around them. This approach is different than age-similar rote memorization — especially during the initial school years. As you can see, there are many Montessori preschool benefits.
